New Delhi: A two-wheeler racing series will be part of rapier loom JK Tyre’s 2017 National Racing Championship, the organisers said in the capital on Thursday. Around 25 bikers will be selected from the 16 and above category, who will race in the national championship at Coimbatore in July.The championship, in its 20th year, has produced racers for nearly two decades, and its organisers now aim to produce top bikers from the country with addition of the four-wheeler series, providing a platform for aspiring bikers, irrespective of their location or background, to display their skills.The names of the shortlisted bikers, after straight shootouts with each other and a personality test, will be announced on June 27, who will then be inculcated into a technical-cum-fitness training programme in Coimbatore.
The series, named the JK Tyre presents Suzuki Gixxer Cup, will have two categories, one for the 12 to 16 year age group and the other over 16-year-olds."The championship will be part of Suzuki’s Gixxer Cup, acting as a feeder line for the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup, with its champion participating in the selection programme for Red Bull Rookie Cup — Road to MotoGP in Spain.Selections trials of the meet will be held in Bengaluru on June 4 (for South Zone), Aizwal on June 10 (East), Pune on June 18 (West) and National Capital Region on June 25 (North).Announcing their tie-up with automobile giants Suzuki, JK Tyre’s corporate communication & motorsport head Sanjay Sharma said: "We want to create champion bikers.
